World War Two Interactive Experience,
The voyage of discovery into our past at Fort Amherst, explores such avenues as Home Guard, where your class will be enlisted, drilled and will have a mini adventure as a WWII soldier with uniform jacket and a dummy rifle. Alternatively they will run the Air Raid Precaution Centre, where they will discover what it would have been like in WWII air raid. Your class, will have to decide where to send the emergency services, how to respond to messages, and they will even sound the siren.
The WRVS kitchen is where children learn about the war time rations and food. They will discover the difference between today's plentiful food choice, to what it was like during the rationing years, They will also enjoy the experience of making tea using an emergency field kitchen. ("What, no tea bags!")
With larger groups and with the kind help of MERG (Medway Evacuees Reunion Group), the children will run a press conference, where they can interview real Evacuees and find out what it was like to be a child away from home during the war. The stories and experiences of the Evacuees are unique.
Finally, there is the fun and thrill of Fire and Rescue, where the adventure is to put out 'incendiary' devices and search and rescue victims from smoke filled building! This is proving to be a favorite module with the children involving stirrup pumps, hoses and buckets of water.
If your class requirements need more for your learning experience, please do not hesitate to call our education team, who will be happy to discuss your requirements and work with your school to make the visit to Fort Amherst a memory of a lifetime. (The minimum number for the full interactive experience is 80 children, for smaller groups we offer a choice of these activities to make your trip just as memorable)
